A Unique Celebration of Polish Independence Day, November 11, 2023, in Oslo
Once again, Singing Without Borders together with the POLSK-NORSK KULTURFORENING SAMHOLD honored Poland’s Independence Day with a concert at St. Olav’s Church in Oslo. The concert was co-organized with the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Oslo. This time, the event featured outstanding soloists and a chamber vocal ensemble. Unfortunately, a lack of support meant that it could not be organized on the same grand scale as always—with a large choir and instrumentalists.
It was a Polish-Ukrainian-Norwegian musical journey toward freedom… a prayer for peace… The title of one of the pieces performed by the vocal ensemble reflected this sentiment. The program also included Red Poppies on Monte Cassino, Gaude Mater Polonia, O mój rozmarynie, and many beautiful works by Polish composers, presented in exceptional renditions.
The performers included artists such as Oksana Myronchuk, Małgorzata Syrek, Krzysztof Aureliusz Łuczyński, Michalina Maria Mikłosz, Oleksandr Vladychenko, Oleh Petrenko (piano), and Justyna Skowronek (classical guitar).
The evening concert on November 11 was preceded by a feast of operatic works at Sagene Church in Oslo, where the artists performed pieces such as Funiculì Funiculà, Casta Diva, Vissi d’arte, Solveig’s Song, and Tears Were Flowing.
These concerts play a vital role in bringing together the Polish community in Norway, so many of whom live here with a deep longing for their homeland. They promote Polish culture, history, and the works of prominent Polish composers. Moreover, these works are performed by an international ensemble, featuring artists from Ukraine and Norway, further emphasizing the spirit of integration.
