The "Singing Without Borders" project, or Śpiewanie bez Granic / Sang Over Grenser, is an international Polish-Norwegian initiative founded in 2017 by opera tenor Krzysztof Aureliusz Łuczyński. This innovative, non-profit project aims to unite amateurs with professionals. Its primary goal is to foster musical, intercultural, and intergenerational integration through workshops, concerts, and cultural exchange. The project is open to everyone — from professional opera singers to passionate amateurs and choir groups—regardless of age, background, or musical experience. Notable performers have come from countries including Israel, Norway, Germany, Kosovo, Bulgaria, Finland, China, Ukraine, Italy, Vietnam, Japan, and Lithuania.
This collaboration began as a Polish-Norwegian initiative and has grown to include participants from various countries, including Germany, Italy, Mexico, and Ukraine. Key components of the project include vocal workshops, joint performances, and opportunities for amateur singers to collaborate with international opera professionals. Notable venues for performances have included iconic locations such as Tenczyn Castle, the Mariacki Church in Kraków, and the Carmelite Monastery in Czerna. Workshops often culminate in major concerts showcasing sacred and operatic music, featuring pieces by composers like Mozart, Verdi, and Moniuszko.
The most important parts of the project are:
Events such as the VIVA POLONIA concerts celebrate Polish patriotic and operatic music, strengthening cultural ties and unity. This initiative highlights the importance of cultural integration within the Polish diaspora in Norway, which is the largest immigrant group there.
These performances celebrate Polish heritage and culture, often coinciding with Poland’s Independence Day or other significant occasions. Artists from Poland and Norway collaborate in these events, presenting both classical and operatic repertoire with the aim of strengthening cultural ties and engaging diverse audiences. The repertoire often includes opera arias, Polish songs, and international classics.
We are proud to collaborate with acclaimed soloists such as Ryszard Karczykowski, Luca Tamani, Arnold Rutkowski, Włodzimierz Zalewski, Monika Świostek, Julia Fercho, Oksana Myronchuk, Katarzyna Haras, Sylwia Frączek, Jadwiga Postrożna, Krzysztof Aureliusz Łuczyński, and many others.
Singing Without Borders is the result of a partnership between two independent associations:
